Private Island for $12 million in Florida Keys
Century21’s Premier Elite Realty offices are handling a deal for the Florida Keys island that remains under-stated by its current owner.
With only 8 current deals going for private islands in the Keys, and approximately 550 private island deals going worldwide at present, Private Jet readers will find interest in keeping abreast of a 1.4-acre estate that has been put up for sale since late February. A 5,000-square foot residence occupies an island laying off Marathon, Florida by 3 minutes’ boat ride. The waters in the Keys come with a characteristic warning for yacht-owners that may be keen to travel the entire distance. The shallow nature of the surroundings waters is only one complexity of many that may surround these sales.
Century21’s press listed two boat docks on the property, aiding a five minute trip to Florida Keys’ Marathon Airport once a lucky island-dweller reaches the mainland. Alternatively, one could take a two hour car trip into the heart of Miami’s fine dining, luxury shopping and restaurant circuit to balance out the secluded and introverted lifestyle that goes with owning a private island.
Previously, the East Sister Rock Island had been appraised at less than ten percent of the $12 million list price. Century21’s President Patricia Delinois attributes the jump in price to a deluge of interest she claims to have stoked up in the property, as quoted in her press release: “We are getting so many calls from buyers whose dream has always been to have their own exclusive, private island! Who wouldn’t want an island like this? It is absolutely stunning!”
The island’s current owner took a rather more sober approach when interviewed by the Miami Herald, citing the island’s understated nature as a “rustic vacation place” and lack of “fancy” being redeeming, soul-nurturing qualities that tied into the ownership. The island can currently be rented out for $5,000 a week while it seeks a new permanent resident.
Century 21 agent Marvin Arrieta asserted that such a unique deal requires the nature and character of a unique buyer. Could that buyer be you? A 3-bedroom, 2-bath main house and neighbouring guest house would certainly appeal to most families, however Arrieta claimed it was the necessities dictated by growing children that have fostered the current owner’s desire to vacate a property they have enjoyed since 1995; maybe a purchase more for a bachelor-minded entrepreneur, after all.
